Back again...

Two new drawings for today, because we were hyped. Or hyper. Or something like that. You know, however it works. We were inspired. Yea, that's it. Definitely.

"Crotchety Old Gnome"

Yea, I have no idea. the walker was rather difficult to draw when Ava was trying to draw in the same spot at the same time. And thats an ax behind him...

"Umm... NO."

This fish is no fool. Anyway, there you have it. As you can see, a continuation of the "Bold Phase". Good stuff, good times.

Here's crayon in your eye.

That's right, back again. Honestly, I wish we hadn't been away for so long. Well, at any rate, here's a drawing we did tonight:

"Drink Me!"

A distant reference a few of you may know.

As you can see, Ava is into her "Power Coloring" stage - as in, get as much of the crayon wax down as possible in as little time and space as possible. Kinda looks cool - ultra bold colors.

Also - all posted and ready to go at the shop section at Wearable Wares! Enjoy! See you next time!

Guess What?!?!?

Yes, we still are. Not a lot of excuses to give... But it's OK - because there's cool news!

First, the new ones:

"Oh Butler, Bring Me Yon Gloves"

I have no explanation.

"Yay! New Crayons!"

It's true! We went out and bought a giant box of more colors than we know what to do with. Good times indeed!

And now the news - I've launched a section of Wearable Wares called "Daddy and Ava Draw!" featuring all the drawings you know and love (and for those neither know nor love yet) from right here, featured on products you can buy and own right in your own home. And the best part - for those who love to be big helpers... Every penny of profit of every sale of every item featuring a "Daddy and Ava Draw" design will go straight to Ava's college fund. So you see - this isn't shameless self promotion by putting our drawings up on my website - this is shameless promotion of my daughter's amazing art skills! And how!

And how!

When I was in art school, some good advice was given regarding a great many things. One applies here. I was told that it's quite common for an artist to find himself/herself with a repeating theme, subject matter, constantly working a common angle, etc. I was told not to look at it as a "rut" that I'm stuck in, but rather something one has to just work through. The good, the bad, the ugly, you just keep chugging along until it's out of your system. Well, the boot theme is one we took on voluntarily, but now that we're in, we're IN IT until the soles are worn right through!

This first was actually done the other day, but due to the busy week, it isn't getting posted until now. So, we bring you...

"We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boot"

And the newest from today:

"WAY Long Laces" or "That Frog is Wearing Rabbit Clothes"

It really was supposed to be a bunny. And somehow a frog appeared. Wearing bunny ears, a fluffy tail, and apparently a clown nose. Shrug.

I know, it's been a while...

It's been a couple of busy weeks, I apologize for the lack of any new additions. Ava and I got a chance to sit and draw this evening. I've decided not only to admit to Br. Tom's mentioning of a possible "boot period" for Daddy and Ava, I've decided to embrace it. So, in light of our "boot period" and Picasso's "Blue Period", I give you...

"The Old Banjoist"

An oddly shaped head, strange beard placement, and perfectly placed line by Ava make him appear to be wearing a Sikh style turban. It is not intentional.

a quick one today

For whatever reason the episode of The Simpsons where Homer wanted to be able to work from home and gained a ton of weight so he would qualify to have to work from home. So it's what came out on the paper today (along with the concept put out in one of my shirt designs):

"Skin Beard"

Right down to the "fat guy hat". Politically correct? Prolly not. Ava wasn't really into coloring tonight, so there's not much there.

Dummdeedumm

Heres the new one for today.

"Boom.tibbiR.???"
or
"Onomatopoeia"

Wicked stripe(s). And boots, for those who might doubt their presence in the universe of the "Sketchies".

A late Tuesday evening edition

Almost forgot to post this. Ava's been... a bit of a trial this evening. Needless to say this one was done pretty quickly (much to my own artistic dismay... the perspective in parts is awful...). Midway through, Ava realized that a DVRed (is that a word?) episode of The Wiggles was still paused, and so took it on herself to unpause it. Followed by clapping and "yaaaaay". So, I give you:

"EDBDB"

salut jeudi

Ava was only so-so into coloring tonight. So this is what we got out:

"Mr. Universal Conehead"

His sash is supposed to say "conehead", but it's really difficult to write so small with a crayon...

I'll leave it to the silent viewer as to whether Ava's addition of blue directly over our contest winner is just accidental coloring in a whatever-works sort of fashion, or a brilliantly rendered, perspectively and three-dimensionally genius addition of a tinsel sash wrapping around him in the opposite direction to his winner sash, to enhance the splendor and celebration of his triumph.

Missed you all...

Sorry about the delay in there... Last Thursday was a bit of a rough one for Ava. Actually, the week was a bit rough. After dinner Thursday, during which Ava was practically falling asleep in her chicken nuggets, Ava and I decided to take the night off.

She made it about another 45 minutes before sleeping.

The weekend was a busy one for me, so even though Ava and I got a chance to color together a couple times, I didn't have the chance to post them for you. So, here are the two since Thursday, plus the new one for today (chronological order, of course):

"Bark."

Funny story about that one - it was mostly done on Saturday, but was revisited on Sunday after getting a new set of free restaurant crayons. These crayons were BOLD. Ava colored directly on the dog (note the hyper-bold blue scribbles), completely obscuring it. Then quickly said "Uh oh!" while pointing at it, and said "uh oh, doggie!!!" So I used the new bold crayons to re-outline the dog, hopefully restoring it enough to be visible.

"Shucks"

Drawn yesterday.

And tonight's:

"Big Pill"

See you all Thursday. Have fun. I'm about to go change a stinky diaper. Bet you're jealous.

Two for the price of ONE!

Ava and I actually managed to draw up this little number on Wednesday before I left. It's been a whirlwind since then, so I never really got the chance to post it so...

"Monkey Tears"

Why? Well, I tend to draw all of my monkeys sad (for whatever reason... I mean, "Sad Monkey" is one of my characters). There were no tears yet. Ava and I were drawing and she pointed and said "Azza monkee???", to which I replied "Yes, that is in fact a monkey. Very good." A brief moment later, Ava said "Monkeeza crying???"

So I said "Yes, I believe he could be crying." And to take away all guesswork, I added tears. And that's when I realized that monkey tears are very, very sad.

And today's addition:

"Electric Ukulele Hero"

For the gamer in us all.

All the orange in memory of Ted's legendary instrument of the guitar (not ukulele) persuasion. For those of you who know Ted, anyway.

Possibly the only this week...

Sadly, I will not be home Thursday evening to color with Ava. I'll be away for work. And sadder still, Ava didn't really seem too into coloring tonight, in spite of initial excitement at the mention of our twice-weekly activity. Oh well. There's always the weekend, maybe, or at least next week. In the mean time, here is this evening's masterpiece:

"How Shakespearian"

High fives to the first to leave a comment correctly explaining the title.

P.S. - that blue scribble in the lower left corner says "Ava", so says Ava.

Thursday fun

Wow. Three this week. Michaelangelo ain't got nothin' on us. Ava was especially excited about coloring after dinner this evening. I was inspired by the fact that her drawing style is totally confetti, making every drawing a party. It's true. And so, I give you...

"Party for the Bonsai"

Yes, I know it's a crummy looking bonsai. But it's fun. Why a bonsai? No idea. It just struck me at the moment. I make it a big point to try not to think about what I'm going to draw with her until I'm sitting down on the tiny foot stool next to her tiny picnic bench on which we create. And so, bonsai it is.

Oh, and I decided to start "signing" and dating the drawings. Probably a fair idea. except the 8 looks like a really poorly written "B". Or maybe even a "6". Eh, whaddaya want, crayons aren't easy to write with (or draw detail with, I might add... thus a crummy bonsai).

Bonus!

Yes, there will probably be another tomorrow. In the mean time, a bonus for you. Ava and I found some time this evening to do a little arting.

A message from Ava:

jhjkkkkll;/HHH

And now:

"Magic 8-Ball Says"
or
"The Fish Flies In From Nowhere"

A Tuesday Masterpiece

I mentioned two days a week before, but wasn't as specific as I could have been. Mommy works on Tuesdays and Thursdays right now. So those will probably be the most likely days that we will be touting our inner (and/or outer) arteest. If done early enough, and time is still available, those will be the evenings I will post them as well. It's possible, though, that I won't be able to post them until a day or two later... but today, we're good.

And thus, I give you:

"I'm Getting Melty"

Saturday, March 29, 2008

Start it off...

So here are the first four - the first reasons I decided to do this blog. These are, as I recall, in approximate chronological order - with the oldest first. Enjoy the madness and extra-mega-superfun creativity!

"Blue Shirt"

"Got One"

"Ugly Butterfly"

"Colorific!"
